5th Annual Tri-County Regional Science Fair

Students from all over the tri-counties gathered at NSCC Burridge Campus on Thursday, March 22, to showcase their scientific prowess at the 5th Annual Tri-County Regional Science Fair.  With such project names as "Bionic Ear", "The Solar Powered Oven", and "How to Cover up a Murder", there was no shortness of intrigue among the judges, event organizers, members of the public, and fellow students.

As the author of this article can tell you first hand, judging the projects was not an easy task.  The creativity & passion shown by all of the young scientists was nothing short of amazing.  The top three overall winners will go on to compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) which will be held in May 2007 in Truro, Nova Scotia.

Aside from the competition itself, there were a number of other activities for the students & adults to participate in.  Students were treated to interactive tours of Burridge Campus and the adults had the opportunity to view PowerPoint presentations from last year's CWSF.  The Tri-County Regional School Board would like to thank Ernie Parkes, College Prep Coordinator, and the staff at Burridge Campus for their hospitality and assistance.

The Tri-County Regional School Board would like to thank all of the students, event organizers, TCRSB staff, NSCC staff, chaperones, teachers, judges, and anyone else who volunteered their time to make this event possible.  Special thanks goes to Trevor Cunningham, Science Fair Chief Judge, and his assistant, Shauna Murphy for organizing the event.  Best of luck to those who advanced to the CWSF and we hope to see all of the participants competing again next year.
