Digby Area Learning Centre
Mr. Clyde Baltzer, Executive Director of the
Digby Area Learning Association (DALA), made a presentation to the
Tri-County Regional School Board (the Board) regarding a proposed
expansion to the Digby Community Education Centre. The proposed
expansion includes a multi-purpose room, a science lab, and a staff
room.
Mr. Baltzer explained that he is not seeking
a financial commitment from the Board for the proposed expansion.
He stated that he will be seeking funds on his own. However, since
the Digby Community Education Centre falls under the jurisdiction of the
the Board, it will need to approve Mr. Baltzer's proposal.
The Board did not make a motion on this
matter at the time of the presentation but will make a decision at a
later time.
Colorful Messages Program
The Board received a piece of correspondence
from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission (NSLC). In the letter, the
correspondent stated that the Department of Education has agreed to
support the Ninth Annual Colorful Messages Program. This program
raises awareness of responsible enjoyment of alcohol.
This program is offered to students in
grades 4-9. Students are asked to draw a 'plan ahead' message on
plain paper bags that are provided by NSLC. The bags are then
distributed to customers at NSLC locations.
The Board made a motion to participate in
this program again this year as it has done so in the past.
